Made in the USA
The Magnalight EXP-LED-2XB-9W rechargeable explosion proof LED light can be used as either an inspection light or a general area work light, as it enables the operator the ability to change the beam from a long, tight spot beam to shorter, wider flood beam. The runtime on this rechargeable explosion proof led light is approximately 8 hours using a 4.8 Volt NiMH battery pack and features 3 high powered LEDs, adjustable beam focus, articulating head and “easy to change” battery packs.
The beam configuration on this explosion proof LED light can be changed from spot to flood in only a few seconds, making this light ideal as an inspection light or a general area work. The operator can remove a clear lens to reveal the LED lens. With a thumb and forefinger, the operator can pull the lens out for a longer, narrower spot beam or push it the lens inward for a wide area flood beam. The T3 temperature rating and Class 1, Division 1 and Division 2, Groups C & D rating on this handheld explosion proof LED light qualifies it for locations where flammable gases, vapors, or liquids are constantly present. |

Swappable Battery Packs Within the Hazardous Locations Areas:
One of the most interesting features of this explosion proof LED light is the ability to swap battery packs within the hazardous location area. With most rechargeable explosion proof flashlights or task lights, the operator must first step out of the hazardous location boundaries before he is able to replace the battery. This particular explosion proof LED light keeps the operator efficient by eliminating the need to leave the work area to change batteries. When the light has approximately 30 minutes left on the battery, an LED indicator light will start blinking. This blinking feature will slow as the light reaches shut off point. This particular model comes with 2 battery packs that allow for 8 hours of run time each.
This unit comes with a 120VAC charger. The charger must be configured to the 1.8A setting before charging which can be done at the top left corner of the charger. While charging, the pack has a LED indicator that switches from red to green when charging is complete. The operator must take caution to not overcharge the battery as this will eventually affect the normal performance and service life of the battery. Although the battery pack can be swapped out in the hazardous location, the battery itself cannot actually be charged within the hazardous area.
Articulating Head:
This hazardous location LED light is equipped with an adjustable knob that enables the operator to position the head of the LED light. The operator loosens the knob, positions the LED light head and tightens the knob to hold the position. The power switch is below the adjustment knob. By pressing the switch until a click is audible, the light will lock into either the ON or OFF position.
Trouble Light Style Hook:
This explosion proof LED light also serves as a task/drop light and comes standard with a top mounted hook for overhead hanging of the light. The unit also comes standard with a nylon lanyard to avoid accidental dropping/damage to the LED light.

LED Mine Lighting and Worker Safety
Utilizing controlled tests involving standard mining cap lights, common commercial grade LEDs, and a special LED mining light design of their own making, they found that for most intents and purposes, LEDs provided a greater degree of contrast and improved threat detection times as shown by test subjects. Particularly in the case of workers over the age of 40, with 43 years being the average age of mine workers, contrasting of LED illuminated objects was improved 43%. Additionally, threat detect [...] |

The Comprehensive Potential of LEDs in U.S. Commercial/Industrial Operations
While reducing energy consumption across the board holds great potential for reducing the United States’ dependence on fossil fuels and foreign energy sources, this is not the only significant area of improvement. By instituting higher energy efficiency standards and switching to alternative forms of lighting such as LEDs, industrial/commercial operations stand to improve their productivity and competitiveness on the world markets through reduced operating costs and improved productivity. IECex/ATEX and North American NEC HAZLOC Equipment Classification
North America is presently not operating with the IECex/ATEX schemes although some effort has been made to produce some homogenity between North American and European Standards, most notably the US and Canada's adoption of a Zone system (NEC 505) modeled after European Schemes. However, despite the great similarity between North American and European Zone systems, they are not identical and are not interchangeable.

Hazardous Locations: Collapse the Triangle and Prevent Ignition
With hazardous locations, it is rarely easy or practical to remove either oxygen or fuel. This is because it is impossible to operate an oxygen free environment, and the very compounds that are present are the very part of the industrial process. Thus, removing heat, or rather the source of ignition becomes the primary target for practicing prevention. Indeed, when incidents arise, it is often determined that “inadvertent ignition” had taken place. So, it is then important to identify and unders [...] |

Combustible Dust Standards and Preemptive Safety
As of this writing, OSHA has yet to institute a solid set of standards for combustible dusts. Many officials adopt NFPA recommendations into their local fire codes as a result in order to attempt some level of regulatory standards across a broad spectrum. Whether or not any meaningful regulation emerges from OSHA in the near future, it is best that any industry or commercial operation associated with combustible dusts be preemptive and adhere to any local regulations as well as adopt their own m [...] |

LED Flashlights: Lightening the Soldiers Load
Modern technology has completely changed the way warfare is waged today. LEDs: Realizing the Trouble Lights True Potential
If youve ever worked underneath a vehicle or had to repair equipment in a confined space, then you have probably at one time or another used a classic trouble light. For the uninitiated, trouble lights are those lights you often see hanging from reels or coiled up in a corner of your local mechanics shop. They are usually nothing more exotic than a long electrical cord, at the end of which is attached a handle with a reflector and bulb on the end. [...] |

Confined Space Lighting for Hazardous Locations
Confined spaces represent some of the most dangerous work places in commercial industries. Because of their enclosed nature confined spaces are poorly ventilated and allow volatile gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates to accumulate and increase in atmospheric density to potentially explosive levels. Confined spaces represent a hazardous work area and are loosely defined by a few general characteristics. [...] |
